Wi-Fi site survey with Ekahau and Hamina
We measure your Wi-Fi on site, find where it goes wrong and tell you what needs to change. For a new design, after an installation or when users complain.
Three kinds of site survey
- Predictive survey: a model of the network from floor plans and materials, before anything is bought
- AP-on-a-stick (APOS): measuring an access point on temporary positions, for concrete, racking, coated glass and location services
- Validation survey: checking after installation that coverage, capacity and roaming meet the design
What we measure
- Signal strength and signal-to-noise ratio on 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz
- Co-channel interference and channel utilisation
- Overlap and roaming between access points
- Data rates, retries and sources of interference
- How many access points a device hears, for location accuracy
What you get
A report with heatmaps per floor, the problem areas ranked by impact and, for each one, what needs to happen: move, add, channel plan or settings. Not a pile of charts without a conclusion.
When do you need a site survey?
- Users complain about slow or dropping connections
- Before a renovation, a new layout or new access points
- In hospitals, warehouses with racking and buildings with a lot of concrete
- Before you take Cisco Spaces or asset tracking into use
- At handover of a new network, as proof that the design was met
For which venues
- Hospitals
- Warehouses and distribution centres
- Offices
- Hotels
- Stadiums and event venues
- Education
Frequently asked questions
How long does a site survey take?
We usually measure an office floor in a day. Large venues and APOS surveys take longer. Once we have seen the floor plans, we give you a fixed schedule.
What does a site survey cost?
It depends on the area, the type of survey and the number of floors. Send us the floor plans: you get a fixed price up front.
Do you need access to our network?
Not for measuring. We measure with our own equipment. For a validation survey it helps if someone from IT is available for questions about SSIDs and settings.
Do you survey other vendors' networks too?
Yes. A site survey is vendor-neutral. Our design advice is strongest on Cisco Catalyst and Meraki.
