Wi-Fi for offices: calls that do not drop
Video calls, hybrid work and meeting rooms that are full or empty. I design office networks that stay stable, and show how the office is really used.
What an office needs
In an office, coverage is the foundation: every desk, meeting room and pantry reachable, also through glass walls and concrete cores. On top of that come video calls. Teams and Webex notice every interruption, so moving between access points must be smooth when someone walks through the building during a call.
Large meeting rooms, an auditorium or a canteen at lunchtime need extra capacity.
What I design
- Coverage per desk and meeting room, on 5 GHz and 6 GHz
- Roaming for calls: 802.11r/k/v and a tight transmit power plan
- Capacity for auditorium, canteen and large rooms
- Guest access and separate networks for IoT and AV equipment
- A new design when a floor is refurbished or reorganised
- Advice on moving to Wi-Fi 7
Refurbishment or relocation
A new layout with glass meeting pods or an extra floor changes coverage. I calculate the new design before the walls go up, so cabling and access points end up in the right place the first time.
Knowing how the office is used
With Cisco Spaces and Webex devices you see occupancy per floor and per room, meeting rooms that are booked but not used, and air quality. That helps with decisions on square metres and hybrid work.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Teams call drop when I walk through the office?
Usually because the laptop stays on one access point for too long, or because the overlap between access points is too small. A validation survey and a few setting changes often fix it.
Should we move to Wi-Fi 7 now?
For new builds and large replacements usually yes: the Wi-Fi 6 models C9120 and C9130 reach end of sale on 31 December 2026. A Wi-Fi 6 network that works well does not need replacing right away.
Can the design be done without a visit?
I make the predictive design remotely, based on your floor plans. For validation after installation I come on site.
